Why become a donor?

MicroBiome Bank donors are very special people. As well as being incredibly healthy, they are also particularly careful about how they eat, not just for themselves but for the patients they help. If you'd like to join them, please apply and we'll see if you fit the criteria.

Before registering, we would like you to understand the process of becoming a donor, including the details of data management and storage, selection methodology, necessary tests and donation steps. If you accept the terms and conditions, please complete the registration process, after which you will be asked to fill in a "Donor's Questionnaire". This will ask you about the circumstances of your birth, any previous medical conditions you may have had, as well as your current health or dietary habits. The people selected through the questionnaire will be consulted in a personal interview. The next step is a faecal bacteriological and blood serological examination of the donor candidates, which will be evaluated according to the criteria described in the methodological letter. As a final screening step, a faecal microbiome test will be initiated to check the exact composition of the bacteria in the donor's colon.

What will make you a good donor?

Using your health to help others has many benefits for You and your family. As donation itself is by law free of charge, we strive to provide our donors with services that are not only necessary for screening, but also help You maintain your health. You help our patients and we will keep an eye on You.

Age

Age-related characteristics are not transferable, but it is important that the age of the donor is as close as possible to the age of the person receiving the treatment. Donors should be no more than 50 years old.
  • under 45 years of chronological age
  • biological age lower than chronological
  • age-appropriate mental health
  • positive attitude
  • no behavioural risks

Nutrition

The microbiome is most influenced by the food intake. We expect You to eat a balanced and varied diet made from food ingredients of the highest quality. Both in the short and long term.
  • high quality ingredients
  • regular fasting
  • no deficiency disease
  • no probiotics use
  • no restrictive diet

Physical state

Microbiome provided by people who engage in static, moderate-intensity exercise is, to some extent, more suitable for improving physical fitness and providing a more stable ecosystem. That is why we need you!
  • sporty lifestyle
  • low BMI
  • high endurance
  • regular defecation
  • no performance enhancing

Cooperation

Donor selection is time-consuming for both You and the medical team and costly for the patient. Before applying, it is important to consider whether the minor inconveniences associated with donation can be borne by You after a successful selection.
  • willing to help
  • consent to data handling
  • consent to screening
  • willing to donate
  • willing to retest

The MicroBiome Donation Process

The procedure is very straight forward and easy to understand. Due to the time-consuming and costly nature of microbiome donation, we strived to exclude any unnecessary tests or inconveniences in the design of our donor screening method.

Registration

This process only takes a few minutes. We will provide you with a unique U****** identifier during the procedure to ensure your anonymity for the tests and data collection.

Step I

Questionnaire

You will then be asked to fill in an on-line "Donor's Questionnaire", which includes health and nutritional information, risky behaviour and sports related questions as well. It takes approximately 10 minutes.

Step II

Blood, Urine & Stool Testing

Those selected through the questionnaire will be subject to a detailed data matching consultation, faecal bacteriological culture, parasitology and blood serological tests, which are evaluated according to the criteria described in the methodological letter.

Step III

Donation

Donations are carried out for a duration of 5 days for two consecutive weeks. Faeces is collected by an easy to use, hygienic device which stores the donation well sealed.

Step IV

Safety Storage

We are required by our strict safety protocol to store the faeces under -80°C in order to eliminate any and all eukaryotic cells. This is a time consuming step wit a length of 8 weeks.

Step V

Donor Retesting

After the safety storage period is over, the donor is retested for all diseases that may have been present in the body at the time of donation, but sensitivity of the screening methods were unable to show.

Step VI

Stool classification

Once it has been verified that both the donor and the faeces is appropriate for medical intervention, as final screening step, a faecal microbiome test will be initiated to verify the exact composition of the microbiome in the donation.

Step VII

Would You be willing to help?

There Are Significant Benefits

You are becoming a donor in order to help patients in great need. But You may only help, if you are in a perfect form. So it is not only our job to cure those who may require so, but it is in our best interest to keep you healthy as long as possible. Our Donor Program consits of three parts.

Regular screening

When it comes to faecal donation, a great number of diagnostic procedures are used to make sure the donor has an excellent health…

which will give you a precise indication of your health status and we are there to cover the costs in full.

Storing Your MicroBiome

We will use your bacteria to help others who may not be able to restore their own microbiome matrix…

but they will also be available to you as well. So by having you among our donors, we can also offer you your own microbiome insurance.

Food Source

Given our view that animal protein free of antibiotics and antihelmints is of paramount importance to those on a mixed diet…

MicroBiome Bank provides its donors with high quality meat from grazing animals vacuum packed from its Farm throughout the year.
